About Me - I am a 2005 graduate of Hubbard High School where I was a decorated member of the band program as well as an All State Bowler. From the fall of 2005 to a little longer than initially planned I attended The Ohio State University at first studying Music Education, but finally settling on a dual major of Math Education and Economics where I graduated in 2011. During my first four years of college I was a member of The Best Damn Band in the Land where I met some of the best people on the planet, most of which are my best friends today. I'm a bowler, golfer, baseball/softball player, a die hard Ohio State and Las Vegas (that still sounds so weird, right?) Raiders Football fan and a tormented Cleveland baseball fan.
The Hobby, Turned Family Business - My parents bonded over their artistic abilities, whether it be photography, ceramics, painting, or especially music so growing up in that kind of family created a culture of "learning without realizing". In 2003 when the company where my dad had worked for over 20 years was purchased and closed he turned his hobby into a successful graphic design and physical sign business that served the area for over 20 years.
Time and Change - When I graduated from Ohio State, the initial plan was to stay in Columbus, get a job, and visit home when possible but you all know what is said about plans. My grandmother was still living in the home she shared with my late grandpa, but battling the early stages of dementia. We decided it was in everyone's best interest to come home, help take care of her and enjoy what could be the final quality years of her life....and it to this day is the best decision I've ever made.
Family Business Generation 2? - While home with my grandma, I started to work with my dad in a field I thought I had zero qualifications for. This is where I realized a lifetime of training had already happened it was just the matter of breaking loose and finding my own voice in the world. I spent 7 full years going to work with my father, earning what felt like a lifetime of connections and lessons in both design and business while not realizing these would be the final years of his life as he suddenly and tragically passed in May of 2018. From here the logical thing was to take over the business and move it forward.....
Shared Passions, a Little Different Look - I quickly realized that my dad and I shared a lot of creative passions, but we still had our differences in what made us happy in that world. One of his biggest lessons to me was "find something that makes you happy, and then make a career out of it" and this is where Bird's Eye Creative is being created. I've always loved Video and Photography and when a chance to get to do it at a professional level came, I decided it was time to take the plunge and do what I enjoy.
Why "Bird's Eye"? - Throughout my entire life, I've somehow been associated with Birds. For my entire childhood, I was a Hubbard Eagle which is the obvious one, but you're probably wondering "What does a Buckeye has to do with being a bird?" Well, in the Ohio State University Marching Band each row of the band has a mascot. Being a Trumpet player, I was assigned to "C-Row" which when you drop the hyphen you are left with "Crow". Mr. Box, a small stuffed crow spent every game with us in the Horseshoe in Columbus and traveled with the group as far as the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. (A few pictures below of Mr. Box was absolutely necessary). Eagles and Crows are both powerful birds in their own right; the Eagle, being the symbol of our country and the Crow which in the spiritual world represents "Wisdom, Intuition, and the Power of Change".
Where it Started, and Success Story #1 - in 2017 I took a part time job as the Athletic Ticket Manager for Hubbard High School under then Athletic Director Chuck Montgomery. He and I sat down and had a brain storming session to help get the word out to the community about schedules, changes, score updates, etc. about our 17 Varsity Sports. This was the beginning of our journey into Social Media Marketing and showcasing the power that a unified brand can hold. Kevin Hogue, the current AD for Hubbard Schools has taken the reigns of the social brand that we created and has used the athletic department's social media platforms to raise over $50,000 in sponsorship revenue for the school.
